Mexicana de Aviación received its second Embraer E195-E2 aircraft this Saturday, arriving from Brazil as part of its expansion strategy to strengthen regional connectivity across the country. The aircraft, registered as XA-MXB and with a capacity for 132 passengers, landed at 1:32 p.m. at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), five days ahead of schedule.
During the reception ceremony held at the General Aviation Terminal and FBO at AIFA, the airline's Director General, General Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez, highlighted the political support of President Claudia Sheinbaum and her transformative vision to promote regional development through the Plan México initiative.
“Mexicana is a tool of the Mexican state to stimulate growth in historically underserved regions. This project would not be possible without the operational and strategic support of the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA),” said Ávila Bojórquez.
First Flight: August 25 to Tulum
The first E195-E2 aircraft, received on July 1, will begin operations on August 25 with an inaugural flight to Tulum International Airport. The airline has prepared a series of surprises for passengers on this first commercial flight.
As for the second Embraer received this Saturday, it is expected to enter service during the second week of September, once all certification processes have been completed by the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), both nationally and internationally.
Fleet Expansion
Ávila Bojórquez announced that Mexicana will receive three more E195-E2 aircraft before the end of 2025. Additionally, in 2026, seven E190-E2 aircraft with 108 seats will be added, and in 2027, three more E190s and five E195s will join the fleet, bringing the total number of aircraft to 20.
“Embraer’s commitment has been key to keeping our delivery schedule on track. Their team has worked closely with us for over a year to ensure timely delivery of the aircraft,” he said.
International Training and Advanced Technology
Mexicana’s flight crews were trained in Madrid, Spain, using state-of-the-art flight simulators. The airline now has four crews fully trained and ready to operate the first E195-E2.
“This is a new-generation aircraft, highly efficient, equipped with advanced navigation technology and an extremely quiet cabin that significantly enhances the passenger experience,” the director general explained. He added that the E195-E2 has an average cruising speed of 950 km/h and a range of over 4,600 kilometers, making it ideal for domestic and regional routes.
The E190 model, on the other hand, will be used for routes with lower passenger demand or at airports with limited infrastructure, as part of the airline’s business strategy to expand air connectivity in Mexico.
