Viva Aerobus continues to expand its international presence ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, announcing two new routes from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) to Austin, Texas, and New York City.
In an official statement, the airline, led by Juan Carlos Zuazua, revealed that these new routes will provide Mexican travelers with affordable and convenient options to fly to two major U.S. destinations — particularly to Texas’ capital, one of the most culturally vibrant cities in the southern United States.
The New York route will begin service during the December holiday season, operating from December 12 to January 11. It will then return permanently in June 2026, just in time for the World Cup, providing enhanced connectivity for both domestic and international tourists attending the event.
“We continue to drive international connectivity from this airport, promoting tourism and creating new opportunities for thousands of Mexicans. Thanks to the efforts of airlines like Viva, our personnel, strategic location, and world-class infrastructure, AIFA is consolidating as the best choice for air travel in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area,” said General Isidoro Pastor, AIFA’s General Director.
The new route to Austin will launch on November 20, with three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Known as the "Live Music Capital of the World," Austin offers a wide cultural scene, international music festivals, excellent cuisine, and beautiful natural parks and lakes.
Meanwhile, the New York route will operate Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, allowing passengers from across the country to take advantage of Viva’s connectivity at AIFA to spend their year-end holidays in one of the world’s most iconic destinations. The route will play a key role during the World Cup by facilitating travel between host cities.
“Mexico City – AIFA – is a cornerstone in our expansion strategy into the United States, becoming a major international connectivity hub for our passengers. These new routes come at the perfect time, as we prepare for the world's biggest sporting event: the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Grupo Viva Aerobus.
These services add to the seven international routes previously announced in April, which will begin operations in November and connect AIFA with Los Angeles, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, Miami, and Orlando, further strengthening air connectivity between Mexico and the U.S.
At the national level, the airline also announced two new domestic routes from AIFA to Veracruz and Saltillo, Coahuila, also starting in November.
AIFA: Viva’s New Strategic Hub
With the addition of the Austin and New York routes, Viva will operate a total of 42 routes from AIFA by the end of 2025 — 11 international and 31 domestic — compared to the 29 it operated at the end of the previous year. This represents a 44% growth, reaffirming its commitment to expanding air connectivity and strengthening its position as the leading airline at the new airport.
“We’re excited to keep building our connectivity hub in Mexico City (AIFA), from where, by the end of this year, we will be flying directly to 42 domestic and international destinations,” said Javier Suárez, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Planning at Viva.
“We remain committed to offering our passengers the best destinations aboard the most modern aircraft, with maximum Flex-Si-bility and all the benefits of Doters, the most generous loyalty program in Mexico,” he concluded.
